P4 HOW I USED PRE-PRODUCTION MATERIALS TO INFORM MY FILM

How I Used Pre-production Materials to Inform My Film

RECCE CHECK/ RISK ASSESMENT: I decided that the road that I first did a risk assessment of was too busy to film on. I decided that for health and safety, and also practicality, it would be better to move to another location. I then did a Recce check of a side street leading of this first road and though a Recce Check and Risk assessment, I decided it would be much more safe and practical to film down here.

SCRIPT: I used the script to inform my film by basing who and what I need for each scene, from what was written on my script. I then wrote all this information on my production log so that I could easily access all the information I would need to easily shoot my film.

STORY BOARD: I have used my story board to inform my film because it has given me idea's of angles and shots I can use in my final film.

P4 INTERPRETATIONS AND RESOLVING ETHICAL ISSUES

HOW MY FILM COULD BE INTERPRETED

A MARXIST PERSPECTIVE
I don't really think there is much in this film for a Marxist to comment on in terms of how the classes are represented within my film. If your really trying to look for class representations then maybe the car or the person in the car could be seen as representing the higher class whilst the couple could just represent middle or working class. This could be seen in this way because the couple are walking and he's in a car so already he is seen to have more than they do. Then there is the fact that the man in the car hits the young man from the couple which could represent the way people who have more aren't aware of people who have less and they don't understand or care enough to help.

A FEMINIST PERSPECTIVE
There are a few minor issues I could see a feminist having with this film. Firstly the fact that the man in the couple was the one leading the conversation and the one who was about to propose instead of the woman could also maybe suggest that he is the dominant one in the relationship. This could be an issue for feminists who believe that woman should have just as big a role as men. Another thing that could be interpreted differently to a feminist is the fact that the car was driven by a man. To them this could represent the way men are always the ones who are careless or who ruin the relationships.

A PHYCHOLGICAL PERSPECTIVE
The way this film could be interpreted in a Psychological way could be mainly about the human instincts displayed in the film. The way the man runs out to get the ring straight away without even thinking about it first could be interpreted as a sign of how much he loved the woman. It could also be a sign of how nervous he was or how much else was on his mind in terms of the proposal at the time.

HOW TO RESOLVE ETHICAL ISSUES IN MY FILM
When creating the storyline for my film I decided to play it safe and not involve any offensive language or themes. I have not used violence. I did however decide that when the boy was hit by the car, the film would cut out and the screen would go black for a second. This is to avoid the film becoming too graphic for it to be appropriate for all audiences. I have also not included any groups of people in order to avoid representing them in the wrong way which could be seen as offensive.

P2 RECCE CHECKS AND RISK ASSESMENTS

RECCE CHECKS
I have visited each of the locations that I will be filming in so that I can check to suitability and see how appropriate it will be to film there.

GUISBROUGH HIGH STREEET

Guisbrough high street is suitable to film in because firstly, it is very nice looking and will make the look of the film nice. Secondly it isn't too busy at certain times of the day (Morning or afternoon during working times). Thirdly there aren't many potential risks or hazards that would make filming here difficult or dangerous.

GUISBROUGH HIGH STREET RISK ASSESMENT

HAZARD:

The first and most obvious risk I noticed in the high street was the curbs. They are quite high in some places and can create a tripping hazard to actors and crew. It can also be damaging to equipment if people aren't aware and place equipment (such as a tri-pod) on the uneven surfaces.

SOLUTION:
The only way to really solve this is to make sure that everyone involved in the film is very aware and conscious of the curbs. I would do this by telling everyone when they arrive on location and then reminding them throughout.

HAZARD:

Another issue that could be a hazard or risk is the road and the traffic. The high street in Guisbrough is quite a busy road and there are cars down it all the time. This could be an issue if people are crossing the road a lot or if people are careless and are standing on the road.
SOLUTION:
Again the only proper solution to this risk is to make people aware of the danger and make sure that they are reminded throughout.

HAZARD:
The hazard in this image is the drain which makes the pavement uneven. This could be an issue mainly with equipment. It’s not that deep so there shouldn’t be an issue with people tripping over it but there is a risk to equipment if the equipment is placed on the uneven ground.

SOLUTION:
The solution here would be to speak to anyone who would be assisting in placing the equipment and make sure they know not to place any equipment on this uneven ground. I would also have to make sure I was aware constantly since I would be mainly using the equipment.
SAINT NICHOLAS CHURCH
Saint Nicholas Church is a very suitable location to film in. Firstly, because it is pretty and picturesque. Secondly, because it is really close to the college and therefore it is easy to access especially when I have to take all the equipment with me. Thirdly it is a good location because it will be used for the wedding scene and this is a location where people actually have weddings.
RISK ASSESMENT FOR SAINT NICHOLAS CHURCH
HAZARD:
The main and most obvious hazard again is the curb. This is very high in some places and as mentioned before could be a risk to people as they could trip over and injure themselves but also to equipment which could fall over if it was placed on uneven ground. Another hazard that you can see a bit of in this picture is the leaves on the ground. These can cause a slipping hazard, especially when the ground is wet. This time of year there will be a lot of them on the floor.
SOLUTION:
A solution to the issue of the curbs is the same as it was in the Risk Assesment of Guisbrough High Street; Make sure everyone is aware. However because there is more space away from the road and the edge of the path at the church, it will be possible to film away from the curbs which will reduce the risk of people tripping.
For the risk of the leaves, they can be swept away from the area of filming. People will still need to be made aware though because, especially if it’s windy, the leaves can blow around and still be an issue.

HAZARD:

This hazard is the uneven ground. This could cause a tripping hazard because some parts of the ground are raised higher then aothers so people could trip over them. It could also be a hazard for equpipment if people place it on the uneven surface.

SOLUTION:

The solution to this hazard would be to make people aware or the danger and just make sure everyone is cautious and safe. I will also have to warn people about using equipment and where to place them in order to keep them safe and protected.

CAR PARK ROAD
The road by the car park is very suitable for filming because it is close to the college so it is good for transporting equipment. Also it is very quiet and there are very few cars that ever go down there, so even though the actors won’t be on the road it will be good for filming because there won’t be cars coming past all the time. Another advantage to there not being many cars is that when I need to get the shots of the road, it won’t be too difficult to get the road clear.

RISK ASSESMENT AND RECCEE CHECK
HAZARD:
There are not many hazards here. The hazard in this photograph is the same as the rest of the locations. The curb, and the fallen leaves.
SOLUTION:
I would make people aware of the leaves and the curb and make sure people are being safe around it and safe with the equipment.
HAZARD:
The other main hazard with working in this place is the cars. There are very few cars that actually come down this road and when they do there is a very slow speed limit. However we will still need to be cautious when filming on this road.
SOLUTION: Check both ways before going onto the road and have people looking out to warn people on the road if cars are coming. Have as few people on the road as possible and have equipment that can be move
